How to Print Your Own Business Cards at Home

Business cards are an important part of any business, no matter how small. If you are running a small business, however, you can save money if you print your own business cards at home. As technology makes it easier to create professional looking business cards at home, more and more people are making business cards at home.

One reason is related to cost. Rather than spending several hundred dollars to have cards professionally made up, you can create as many cards as you want for the cost of just the paper. For small businesses, especially side ones where the profit margin is extremely narrow, it can be very advantageous if you print your own business cards.

One option is to use a standard design program like Adobe Photoshop for making business cards and then using any one of the numerous tutorials available on the internet. If you have experience in design, then obviously you could design your own card. The advantage here is that you can spend the time creating the perfect business card best suited to reflect your own personality and the style of your company.

If you do not have much experience with design work and you are not comfortable working with programs like Adobe Photoshop, then there are other options. You could hire a graphic designer to make the card for you. This would increase the amount of money you are spending on the cards, but it certainly is possible to find a freelance designer who could do the work for a nominal fee.

Alternatively, you could look for pre-made business card designs that are downloadable. Once you've confirmed that the design is suitable for your business needs, you should be able to easily input the relevant information (contact details, name, company information, etc.).

Once you have a file that is ready to be printed out, you have two choices. One is to take the file to a professional printing company, or if it is an online company, send the file through the appropriate channels. They will of course charge you a fee but at least you can be sure that your cards will be printed properly and cut professionally.

The other option is to print the cards out yourself, and do the cutting yourself as well. This is easy enough if you are able to set the printer settings appropriately and if you have a paper cutter that will cut your business cards properly. With today's printers it is easy enough to print your own business cards that rival professionally made cards. You can even get raised lettering with some higher end printers. After that, the next step is ensuring the business cards are cut in straight lines so they do not look crooked and unprofessional.

You can always seek the assistance of professional designers when making business cards, but with today's technology there are plenty of options and support online that you can use to print your own business cards at home. It doesn't really matter to prospective clients whether you hand out cards that have been made professionally or cards that have been created and cut at home. The end result is the only thing that counts and if your cards look stylish and well done, then if you can do it at home, you might as well do so and save on the cost of having them done professionally.
